Next time visiting Venice, bring your clubs and enjoy playing five amazing golf courses.

Along the way, the historical towns of Verona, Padova, Vicenza and Treviso, the sea, Lake Garda, the mountains of Asiago

You’ll be amazed how golf is part of the Veneto culture. Start your golf trip from Venice, the most unbelievable town in the world with a hidden 18 holes gem. The capital of the Veneto region lies on more than a hundred small islands within a lagoon, in the Adriatic Sea. No streets but canals, where Renaissance and Gothic palaces take centrr stage. It’s on the long and thin Lido Island, which separates the lagoon from the sea, that the Venice Film Festival takes place every year and that golf is played since 1928. Bring your clubs and move to the quiet countryside of Villa Condulmer (24 km), then to Padova and its thermal area (65 km). Climb to reach the woods of the Asiago plateau (98 km) one thousand meters high, before playing Verona (130 km) steps away from Garda Lake. Along the road, stop and explore the romantic towns of Verona, Padova, Vicenza and Treviso; go deep inside the finest Italian art and culture in a region which is a perfect mix of golf and sensory experiences. It’s not a case that Veneto has been voted in 2013 as the IAGTO best undiscovered golf destination in the world. Looking for a cool finish of your golf trip? You can book (with a special offer) a Costa Crociere cruise in the Adriatic See, leaving from Venice.

VENICE, THE ISLANDS AND A NOBLE LINKS COURSE
Circolo Golf Venezia is the eldest club in the region and among the oldest in Italy, founded in 1928 with 25 members from noble Venetian families, and opened later in 1930. The southern end of the Lido Island, in a spectacular strip of land between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon of Venice, with sandy soil and windy in the best British tradition, looked perfect to the Scottish architect Cruikshank. It shares several links features: Bora and Scirocco winds that often impact the course, increase the challenge and require game control to hit greens well protected by bunkers. On the course, also an Austrian fortification built for the defence of Venice is in play. You can reach the club by boat, docking just in front of the entrance as did, among many others, Arnold Palmer, Tony Jacklin, Seve Ballesteros, Johnny Miller and Lee Trevino. Venue of the Italian Open (1955, 1960, 1974), the Italian Senior Open (from 2004 to 2007) and the Vagliano Trophy (1989-2001).

VILLA CONDULMER, TREVISO, THE QUIET COUNTRYSIDE
Golf Club Villa Condulmer (1960) is set in the park of an eighteenth-century villa where Giuseppe Verdi was often welcomed and composed part of La Traviata. Since 1958 it’s a charming five stars hotel (among the guests Ronald Regan and Elisabeth Taylor), overlooking the first nine holes unwinding through secular trees with the British mood of its designer, John Harris; more open and longer the second nine. Lakes and canals are often in play, and water can be really a problem on holes 11 and 17. A typical regional cuisine is served on the terrace. The renewed academy has grown top players, mainly women winning all over the world. Since 2018 it’s the venue of the International Girls’ (U18) Championship of Italy. The town of Treviso is twenty minutes away, enclosed in its superb sixteenth-century walls. You can get its quiet mood walking along river Sile and the many canals reflecting painted facades; then reach the monumental Piazza dei Signori and Duomo.

PADOVA, COLLI EUGANEI, THERMAE AND SPA
Golf Club Padova (1962). It’s a parkland course designed by the London architect John Harris and restyled by Graham Cooke; also planned as a botanical garden with 8.000 trees and bushes chosen according to landscape and technical criteria. A demanding test, long enough, with tight fairways, few lakes and fast greens. The clubhouse’s wide spaces offer terraces to dine with a view and charming lounges. Relais Golf Padova, upstairs, provides ten spacious rooms overlooking the course. The ancient Villa Barbarigo (XVII century) is neighboring the course, a must stop: a symbolic garden with rare plants, statues, lakes and a labyrinth. Golf Padova is set in the Colli Euganei park, with wooden hills of volcanic origin and thermal waters. Half an hour to Padova (Unesco World Heritage Site since last July), a town with three thousand years of history where Galileo Galilei was a lecturer at the University. Stop at Prato della Valle, the huge square with a channel in the middle and 78 statues.

ASIAGO, PURE MOUNTAINS AND VICENZA
Golf Club Asiago (1967). A mountain golf experience, one of the best in urope, designed first by Harris & Cotton, then completely restyled by Peter Harradine in 1990. Wonderful views and mild slopes (Asiago lies on a plateau one thousand meters high), a mix of tight holes in majestic pines’ woods and open spaces. Great attention is given to the eco system. The clubhouse is a beauty, covered in white woods, with high ceilings, big windows and a panoramic terrace. Here you can taste traditional recipes from the Plateau with unusual combinations. Just in front is the charming Meltar Boutique Hotel receiving guests in its elegant ambience and Mountain Spa, with pine treatments and green views. 60 kilometers away is the town of Vicenza, selected as a World Heritage Site since 1994.The architect Andrea Palladio worked wonders here in the 16th century, with 23 unique buildings including Basilica Palladiana and Teatro Olimpico.

VINEYARDS, VERONA AND LAKE GARDA
Golf Club Verona (1963). A country chic villa covered with vegetation is receiving golfers in a simple, quiet and harming mood, in view of the putting green and the driving range. The holes stretch out along the vineyards, with mild up and downs on the Custoza hills (renowned for the production of the Custoza White Wine). Tight in the woods the first nine, longer and wider the second ones: placing the tee shots is a must, as well as approaching elevated greens with technique and good eye. To play and stay, you can book one of the four «Casette Golf Apartments» on the course, with patio or terrace. Verona (Unesco Heritage) is 15 kilometers away, a blend of art, history and events, with the center stage of the Arena, a Roman amphitheater. Same distance to reach Lake Garda for a sports’ full immersion, or to explore medieval castles, archeological sites and picturesque villages.
