As part of their commitment, initiatives at Lumine include hosting weekly group golf lessons and being an official venue for Women’s Golf Day 2020. The aim is to introduce new female players to the sport through teaching the basic skills of golf and developing their confidence to tackle the golf course.

Over the next few years, Lumine are committed to increasing female membership at the club by 50%, as well as introducing the game of golf to 100 females.

Dedicating equal opportunities for females has long been a priority at Lumine, demonstrated through having several instrumental females in high-level positions within, including; Chief Corporate Officer of the resort, New Project, Construction and Facility Manager and Sales Manager at Lumine Travel.

The Women in Golf Charter was set up by The R&A as part of the organisation’s global drive to increase the number of women and girls participating in golf and to encourage more opportunities for women to work within the golf industry.
It specifically aims to strengthen the focus on gender balance and provide a united position for the golf industry, as well as to take positive action to support the progression of women working at all levels of the sport and develop an inclusive environment for women and girls within golf.

By joining the charter, Lumine are following in the footsteps of The Royal Spanish Golf Federation and will work alongside the federation to develop new initiatives in order to motivate the other 400 golf clubs in Spain to join the charter and create a better environment for women in golf.

Andy Gordon, Head of Golf at Lumine Golf Club, said: “We are extremely pleased to have pledged our support to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter and can’t wait to work alongside The Royal Spanish Golf Federation to help develop a more inclusive culture for women and girls to play golf, both at Lumine Golf Club and throughout Spain.
“It is a real honour for us to become the first golf club in Spain to join the initiative and showcase our commitment to not only growing the game for women & girls, but also providing them with the support and opportunities to work in the industry. There are a number of inspirational female employees at Lumine, who are the heartbeat of everything we represent at the club.”

Susana, a female greenkeeper at Lumine Golf Club, added: “Becoming the first golf club in Spain to join The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter is a fantastic achievement for Lumine. They have always been dedicated to helping women, like myself, further their careers in the golf industry and that can be seen by the number of female employees that occupy high-level positions at the club. I am excited to help the club on the next step of their journey and help more women become part of the game.”

Jackie Davidson, who leads the Women in Golf Charter for The R&A, said: “There is a huge opportunity to grow golf if we can encourage more women and girls to take up the sport. It is so important that clubs like Lumine take the initiative and do all they can to become more accessible and appealing to women and girls. We congratulate them for committing to the Women in Golf Charter and hope this will encourage other clubs in Spain and elsewhere to follow their excellent example.”
